iHEARtest Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how OTCHealth Inc. and InnerScope Hearing Technologies, Inc. handle information when you use the iHEARtest mobile application.

1. Summary

iHEARtest is a self-check for general hearing awareness. Self-check responses, results, family profiles, and questionnaire history are stored on your device. They are not automatically sent to OTCHealth, PostHog, Customer.io, or another marketing service. Hearing and profile data leaves your device only when you deliberately use a share or export feature, enable the optional Apple Health export, or contact support. Separately, the app may send scrubbed crash/error diagnostics to Sentry, and it sends masked usage events to PostHog only if you opt into optional app-usage analytics.

2. Information Stored on Your Device

Depending on the features you use, iHEARtest stores:

  • Self-check responses and results
  • Optional family-profile names, ages, roles, and test history
  • Optional questionnaire and speech-in-noise practice history
  • Preferences such as language, appearance, reminders, and accessibility settings

Sensitive app records are stored in the native app preference store. Only a small set of non-sensitive display and consent settings is mirrored to browser storage for first-paint and settings behavior.

3. Information Sent Off Your Device

Optional app-usage analytics

Optional app-usage analytics are off by default. If you turn on Share optional app usage in Settings, iHEARtest may send named usage events and masked session replay to PostHog to help improve the app. The app does not send your Screening Number, hearing-result tier, per-frequency responses, audiogram, questionnaire result, family-profile name, or form text through this analytics feature. The analytics client uses a random session-only identifier held in memory, does not create a persistent analytics cookie or local-storage identity, disables person profiles, and requests no GeoIP enrichment. You may turn analytics off in Settings at any time; turning it off stops recording and resets the current session.

Crash and error reporting

iHEARtest uses Sentry for crash and error reporting. Before an error report is sent, the app removes request bodies, query strings, cookies, interaction breadcrumbs, email addresses, and hearing-result field patterns. Sentry replay is disabled.

Information you explicitly share

If you choose to save or share a clinician PDF, consumer summary, image, or text result, the destination you select may receive that content. Review the destination before sharing because these exports can contain sensitive hearing information and, where you choose, a profile name.

Apple Health

If you explicitly tap the Apple Health export control and approve Apple's permission dialog, iHEARtest may write your screening audiogram to Apple Health. iHEARtest requests write-only access and does not read Apple Health data. Apple Health data remains subject to Apple's privacy and device-security controls.

Support

If you call, email, or otherwise contact OTCHealth, we receive the information you choose to provide. The in-app callback and email-results collection forms are disabled until a protected, receipt-bearing service is available.

4. Information We Do Not Collect Automatically

  • Audio recordings
  • Device GPS or other precise location
  • Contacts or photos
  • Hearing results or profile data for advertising
  • Religion or religious-observance preferences

PostHog GeoIP enrichment is disabled in the app. Like any internet service, Sentry and PostHog receive the network address needed to deliver a request; OTCHealth does not use that address to build a location profile or for advertising.

The microphone is used only after you grant permission and only for features that need it, such as the pre-test ambient-noise check, Decibel Meter, or optional live-microphone tinnitus sound.

5. Sharing and Sale of Information

We do not sell personal information or hearing data. We use service providers only for the functions described above and as required by law or a business transfer. We do not use iHEARtest data for cross-context behavioral advertising.

6. Adults Only

iHEARtest profiles are for adults age 18 or older. The app does not support profiles for children.

7. Your Choices and Rights

  • Turn optional app-usage analytics on or off in Settings.
  • Clear local iHEARtest data from Settings. This clears the native preference store, the browser-storage mirror, delivered and pending local notifications, PostHog identity, and in-memory app state after reload.
  • Contact privacy@otchealthmart.com to request access, correction, or deletion of information you previously chose to send to OTCHealth or its service providers.
  • Revoke microphone, notification, or Apple Health access in iPhone Settings.

The app distinguishes a local device wipe from a request to delete records already sent to support services; it does not claim a server deletion occurred without a verifiable request.

8. Data Retention

Local data remains on your device until you clear it or uninstall the app. Shared exports are retained by the destination you chose. Optional analytics and crash data are retained under the service-provider settings and agreements applicable to OTCHealth. Support records are retained only as long as reasonably needed for support, legal, and security purposes.

9. Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards, including local data minimization, opt-in analytics, masked replay, crash-report scrubbing, dependency scanning, and release gates. No system is perfectly secure.

10. International Users

Information sent to OTCHealth or its service providers is processed in the United States.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. The Last updated date will reflect changes.
